Chess Server Timeseal
Common Problems after downloading
- WWW Browsers forget to uncompress the gzipped Binary and just rename it.
Solution: Check the size! If the "executable" is the same size as the
compressed file, rename it back to timeseal.gz and run gunzip timeseal.gz.
- Under Unix, unpacked Binary is lacking the right permissions for user
to execute.
Solution: chmod 755 timeseal*.
- No connection or weird error messages
Since Hostname resolving works different on different machines,
our timeseal only accepts numerical IP-Adresses (i.e. 131.246.89.4)
as argument. That means that you cannot give the Server address
as chess.unix-ag.uni-kl.de as you would do when using xboard.
- It says: "Cannot connect... Please use that address."
Solution: Congratulations, you have got one of the first Versions of
timeseal. But if you want to get it running, you should download a more
recent version from http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~chess/soft/timeseal/ (this page).
- Windows timeseal says "expired".
Solution: Get a new version from here, or have a look at
ftp://chess.onenet.net/pub/chess/timeseal/
for a new version.
- Something is wrong.
Solution: Well... Wish you would give a more verbose error description. However,
just check the spelling. The correct syntax is described in the
README
file. Be sure you use the numerical IP Address and the right port
( timeseal 131.246.89.4 5000 ) and not the server name. Timeseal
does not speak DNS.
- Uhm... don't know.
Solution: Ask someone on the server who does. Read the
README. At last resort, ask one of the chess server admins, but be aware that we do
not always know everything about the Computer System you use. Verbose and
detailled descriptions of the problem always saves a great deal of time!
