match

Usage: match user [[Start] [Inc] [Black_Start Black_Inc] [board_category board]]

Requests a match with a given user. The remaining parameters specify the time controls of the match. If none are given then a '2 12' match is specified. If only 'Start' is given then 'Inc' is assumed to be zero. If a time is given for Black then the original requestor of the match will play the White side, otherwise the side will be chosen "fairly".

Start's are given in minutes, and Inc's in seconds.

Board_category and board (which must be used together) specify a particular starting position for the game, but these arguments can only be included when all of the other arguments have also been given. If a particular starting position is not supplied, then "standard" and "standard" are used.

Usual matches can be of two types: blitz and standard. How a match is classified depends upon both the Start time and the Inc time. A formula is used to determine whether it is blitz or standard. NOTE: It does not depend on the initial time alone. The "blitz" help file has the formula and a chart of slowest blitz and fastest standard time controls.

Here are some examples of match requests to illustrate the different arguments and format of the match command:

match red 5
Requests a 5 minute blitz match with red (Inc = 0; same time controls for both players).

match red 30 30
Requests a match with red using a 30 minute Start time and 30 second increments (same time controls for both players).

match red 30 0 15 0
Requests time-odds match with red. White will have 30 minutes on his/her clock, and black will have 15 (note that all four values for the time controls must be given for a match with time odds).

match red 2 12 0 0 openings ruy-lopez
Requests a blitz match with red starting with the ruy-lopez opening position. (Note that to start from a given board, you must give all four time control values; in this example, you may not omit the two zeros.)
